Vroom vroom... make a loo roll car

Is it a Rolls? Make this cardboard craft!

Vroom vroom... make a loo roll car
by Natalie Keeler

This cool car craft is a great way to recycle any old toilet paper rolls you have stored away in your recycling bin. Your child could even add a few racing stripes to the sides of their mini vehicle to make sure it travels extra fast – then, once the paint has dried, pop the driver inside. Start the engine... and off you go!

You will need:

  • Toilet paper roll tubes
  • Paint
  • Googly eyes
  • Scissors

How to make this toilet paper roll car craft

Step 1

Help your child to snip a little bit from the middle of the tube. (This is where the driver sits)

Step 2

Now they paint the tube a fast-car colour, like racing red!

Step 3

Once dry, they snip and stick black paper wheels, paint on 'go faster' stripes and add a lucky number.

Learning guide

The physical elements of this make (cutting, sticking and painting) all help develop your little one's fine motor skills. Encourage your child to think about the numbers involved in making their car too. How many wheels need to go on? What would happen if there was only 1? What number have they chosen to stick on their car and why? What number would you choose to put on your car? Discussing ideas helps kids become better listeners and learners.
