Cool cat crafting

Use a toilet roll to make this funky feline

Cool cat crafting
by Natalie Keeler

Sometimes when our recycling bin becomes too overwhelmed with toilet rolls, we have to find new things to do with them. This cool cat craft is perfect for school holidays and rainy days – just make sure you keep a second loo roll handy to make the cat's eyes, whiskers, eyes, paws and tail. Then your child can choose to paint their feline friend any 'cat' colour they like.

You will need:

  • Toilet paper roll tubes
  • Paint
  • Googly eyes
  • Scissors

How to make this toilet paper roll cat

Step 1

Cut the tube in half (they can use the other half for another craft, if you like).

Step 2

Next, your child paints it a cat colour (black, orange, brown, grey – it's up to you!).

Step 3

Once dry, they add paper ears, paws, whiskers and a tail.

Step 4

Finally, they can draw on a cute cat’s face and add googly eyes.

The physical elements of this craft activity, like cutting, painting, and sticking, all help develop your little one's fine motor skills. Don't panic if the painting bit gets messy – this is a great way to let your child explore their creativity. How does a cat move? What sounds do they make? See if your little one can even move like a cat around the living room!
